22 Aug An Introduction to CBD
Perhaps you have heard the hype about the cannabis extract, CBD, and the benefits it seems to hold. CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the cannabis plant, which belongs to the family Cannabaceae, more commonly known as hemp. Of course, things always seem to become controversial when the word cannabis is involved, but scientists are quick to point out that CBD does not have the same mind-altering effects as marijuana, since it does not contain THC, the psychoactive component of the plant. Instead, CBD is said to offer relief from physical pain, anxiety and depression, as well as having anti-inflammatory properties, without any of the psychoactive side-effects.
Although CBD use is still a relatively new phenomenon, scientists have been busy studying its effects for quite a few years. A study conducted in 2011 asked a few dozen people, some of whom had social anxiety disorder, to speak in front of a large audience. Some of the participants were given CBD, some were given a placebo, and some were given nothing at all. The participants were not told if they were given the real drug or the placebo. Researchers then compared anxiety levels in the participants after they took CBD, compared to those who got the placebo or nothing at all. The results? “Cannabidiol reduces the anxiety induced by stimulated public speaking”. The researchers found that people who took CBD reported significantly less anxiety than those who took the placebo. Now, more studies are currently underway to examine the effects of CBD as a way to help people cope with PTSD, substance abuse and even seizure disorders such as epilepsy.
With positive results becoming more widespread through scientific studies and word-of-mouth recommendations alike, the popularity for CBD is growing. Today, CBD oil alone is estimated to be a $200 million industry. In addition to oil, CBD is sold in the form of lotions and, increasingly, ingestibles (foods and beverages). River Moon Wellness has been at the forefront of CBD promotion in the coffee industry in an effort to de-stigmatize cannabis and help reach out to people who want relief from physical pain, anxiety and stress in a way that is both natural and transparent. One of River Moon’s fundamental goals is to be “a partner that is broad in imagination, dreams and limitless possibilities for a discerning customer base”. Why not be an innovator and leader in CBD?
