Enjoying your coffee during the summer months poses a temperature challenge. You want to enjoy that sweet coffee treat but avoid the extra heat.

Enjoying summer coffee drinks doesn’t have to send you sweating. Check out some fun and delicious ways to still enjoy that regular cup of Joe while staying cool.

1. Hot Summer Days Need Cool Coffee

If coffee is your go-to morning pick-me-up or a treat you like to enjoy throughout the day, summer is not the time to order it hot. Take your coffee cold. Iced coffee is the perfect drink for hot summer days.

Coffee can also be a beverage for a summer cocktail hour or poolside sipping. Create an Old Fashioned by shaking up the cold brew with simple syrup, bitters, and a shot of bourbon. Then, add rum, passionfruit, pineapple juice, and lime to your coffee for a tropical-inspired caffeine concoction.

2. Don’t Worry About it Getting Watered Down

Here’s a great idea for keeping your coffee flavorful and robust. Brew your favorite blend ahead of time, allow it to cool to room temperature, and then pour it into ice trays.

Instead of using regular ice cubes, pop the coffee cubes into your iced coffee drink. When the ice melts, you’ll be experiencing the same intense flavor you started out enjoying.

3. Have Fun With Flavors

Iced coffee allows the opportunity for flavor, and coffee in the summer begs for tropical flair.

Try orange zest or freshly squeezed lemon juice to brighten up your cup. Lime juice and a bit of tonic or citrus-flavored seltzer water make a sparkling citrus coffee treat.

Add coconut milk, vanilla syrup, and blend with frozen coffee cubes. Top it off with whipped cream and a sprinkling of coconut flakes for a coconut cream dream.

4. Cold Brew for Something New

Water temperature affects the taste and aroma of coffee. Create a new flavor profile with the cold brew process.

This recipe is best if you have a cold brew maker or french press; however, you don’t need fancy equipment. You can make cold brew in a mason jar. Essentially you just need a container with a lid and a strainer.

Grind your beans and add water at a ratio of 1:5. For example, if you want to make a 20-ounce cup, you’ll need 4 ounces of coffee. This is the best ratio for cold brewing.

If using a cold brew maker, pour the grounds into the coffee compartment, fill with the appropriate amount of water, and secure the lid tightly. Allow the coffee to steep in the refrigerator for 12 to 18 hours.

For the Mason jar method, use the same 1:5 coffee to water ratio. Place all the grounds directly into the bottom of the jar. Add half of the water, making sure all the grounds are wet. Then add the remaining water and stir.

Secure the lid and steep it in the refrigerator. After steeping, use a strainer to rid your coffee of the grounds.

Tip: The longer the coffee is left to steep, the deeper the flavor profile.
